Get Booked is operated by Margaret Lee, an individual based in California. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices. It works together with our Terms of Service.
Account details: first name, username, email, password (stored only in encrypted, hashed form), date of birth, favourite genres, bio, profile photo, and your city if you choose to share it. Content you create: reviews, ratings, forum posts, comments, reactions, direct and group messages, reading progress, book suggestions and game activity. Author listings: book title, description, cover image, external link and discussion questions you submit.
When you sign in we store two secure cookies that keep you logged in; they're required for the site to work. We record your IP address with sign-in attempts to protect accounts from password guessing. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser and device type, pages requested and time). We also use a product-analytics tool (PostHog, provided through our hosting platform, Emergent) that records page views, clicks and basic device and browser information so we can understand how the site is used and fix problems. Your browser may also store a few preferences, such as light or dark theme and recent searches. We don't use advertising trackers and we don't sell or share your data for targeted advertising.
Our site doesn't currently respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals. You can limit analytics by blocking cookies or scripts in your browser settings, though signing in requires our essential cookies.
Payments are handled by Stripe. We receive your Stripe customer and subscription IDs, plan, renewal dates and payment status. We never receive or store your full card number. Stripe's use of your information is covered by Stripe's privacy policy.
To run the club: your account, forums, reading tracker, badges, games and messages; to process memberships and book-listing fees; to send account emails (password resets, welcome and renewal reminders, price-change notices, and optional reading nudges you can turn off); to keep the service safe and investigate abuse; and to improve Get Booked.
Get Booked is members-only: profiles, posts, reviews and author listings can only be seen by signed-in members, not the general public. Other members can see your username, first name, profile photo, bio, badges, favourite genres, reviews, posts and author listings. Your city is shown only if you choose to share it. Your email address and date of birth are never shown to other members. Direct and group messages are visible to the members in that conversation. There's no admin tool for browsing messages, but we may access stored messages and other content when needed to respond to a report of abuse, protect members' safety, keep the service secure, or comply with the law.
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run Get Booked (hosting and database, file storage, email delivery, analytics and Stripe for payments), or when required by law or to protect rights and safety.
We use reasonable safeguards: encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, secure sign-in cookies, limits on login attempts, and restricted access to our systems. No online service can be completely secure, so we can't guarantee that your information will never be accessed without permission.
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account from your profile settings, we immediately remove your name, username, email, bio, profile photo, city and followers, sign you out everywhere, and delete your book listings and notifications. Reviews, forum posts and messages you've already shared stay visible to others but are shown as "Deleted member", so the conversations still make sense. We keep payment and transaction records as long as needed for tax, accounting and legal reasons. Copies may remain in our hosting provider's routine backups for a limited time until they're overwritten. To ask for any remaining content to be deleted, email us.
Get Booked isn't for children under 14. Our sign-up form asks for a date of birth and blocks anyone under 14, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 14 has an account, email getboookedinfo@gmail.com with their username. We'll check it, close the account and delete its personal information promptly, normally within 7 days. Members aged 14–17 need a parent or guardian's permission to use Get Booked and to pay for anything.
You can update your profile, stop sharing your city, and turn off reading-nudge emails at any time. You can ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by emailing getboookedinfo@gmail.com. California residents may have additional rights under state law, and we won't treat you differently for using them.
If we change this policy we'll update the date below, and we'll notify members of significant changes.
